Workshop series online and offline at ZKM Karlsruhe,

August 2020 to November 2021

What happens if we answer to the complex and global questions of our time through improvised movement?

In the frame of the exhibition "Critical Zones. Observatories for Earthly Politics" at ZKM Karlsruhe, Mira Hirtz created a series of online and offline workshops in order to treat the exhibition space, as well as exhibited ideas, as a space and frame for performative rehearsals.

"Critical Zones" is full with multilayered questions and concepts like the "Terrestrial" or "Gaia". In the workshops we approached these topics by reading them as instructions for movement – how will our bodies respond? And how can we decipher these responses? How can we investigate embodiment if we meet virtually?

We understood the aware perception and movement of our bodies as a valuable source of knowledge and creativity. With the help of choreographic and performative tools as well as with a playful look at digital formats and online communication, we improvised and learned together.
